Rehabilitation Act of 1973: Supported Employment
The supplementary grants authorized under this program assist states in developing collaborative public/private ventures to offer training and time-limited post-employment services leading to supported employment for persons with severe disabilities.
Supported employment is defined as "competitive work in integrated settings -
- For individuals with severe handicaps for whom competitive employment has not traditionally occurred; or
- For individuals for whom competitive employment has been interrupted or intermittent as a result of a severe disability, and who, because of their handicap, need ongoing support services to perform such work."
