Medicaid: Services Optional to States

States may offer the following types of optional services if they are specified in the state's approved Medicaid plan:

  • Private duty nursing services
  • Clinic services
  • Dental services
  • Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and treatment for speech, hearing, and language disorders
  • Prescribed drugs, dentures, prosthetic devices, and eyeglasses
  • Other diagnostic, screening, and rehabilitative services
  • Intermediate care facility services
  • Inpatient psychiatric services for person older than 65 or younger than 21
  • Case management services
  • Home and community based services for frail elderly individuals
  • Community supported living arrangements for persons with mental retardation and related conditions
  • Any other type of care approved by the Secretary of Health & Human Services
